Colors: It’s all about skin tone

Reader Romney asked me to talk about colors.

I am not an expert. Through experimentation, I have learned what colors look good and don’t look good on me.

Experimentation is expensive. Putting together outfits of varied colors just to discard those that don’t work can quickly empty your purse. There has to be a better way and it is called “color analysis.”

Myimperfectlife.com has an excellent article “how to find the shades that will make you look—and feel—your best.” The article provides a step-by-step guide for determining your best colors. Click here to read it.

By the way, turns out that I am “cool’ despite what some people say (LOL), so blue, emerald, purple, lavender and icy blue should populate my wardrobe. My bright colors are pink, ruby rosy reds—and for the neutrals, white, navy blues and cool grays.

Have a colorful day!

Getting Better All the Time

Today marks six weeks since I had total knee replacement surgery. I have three more sessions of rehab this week and then I see my surgeon on Friday for a final post-surgery check-up.

I am not 100% yet. Going down stairs is still an issue; I think it is doable, but I have to convince myself that I can do it.

Don't need a cane any longer, but I still carry one just in case (like when I walked in the woods for the first time on Friday).

I figure that later this month, I will be ready to go out and will probably do lunch en femme.

And finally, thank you all for your birthday wishes last week! Hope the next 52 weeks will be better than the previous 52.

Films of Late

I am a big movie fan and usually watch the Oscars to see which movies and movie stars win what awards. During the build-up for tonight’s Oscars, all I hear is how the film Everything Everywhere All at Once is the favorite to win the best film award. Its actors are also nominated for best actor and actress.

I viewed the film last night on Showtime. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. It is one of the worst films I have ever seen. My hate for the film continued to build the longer I watched it and I would have changed channels if my spouse did not insist on seeing it to the end. She disliked the film, too, but figured that after investing two hours with this turkey, she mighty as well see it all.

In my opinion, a much better nominated film is The Banshees of Inisherin, but I don't have high hopes that it will win anything.

And so it goes.

Items of Interest

Hump Day Femulation Dept.

A promo for this weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live has guest host Jenna Ortega interacting with the Please Don’t Destroy boys who are crossdressed as Wednesday of Addams Family. I don't know if the boys will appear crossdressed on the show or if their  appearance is strictly for the promo. So stay tuned.

Monika Interviews Mariette Dept.

Monika alerted me to her recent interviews with Mariette Pathy Allen, who has been taking photos of our community for almost 50 years.

(I ran into Mariette at various trans gatherings in the past. In fact, I danced with her at Fantasia Fair about 10 years ago. But she never took a photo of me! LOL)

College Resources Dept.

Sierra from BestAccreditedColleges.org wrote that their team created a guide, the Top 50 LGBTQ-Friendly Colleges, which provides essential information on the best colleges for LGBTQ students, including:
  • Campus clubs
  • LGBTQ housing
  • Campus safety
  • Counseling
  • LGBTQ-inclusive policies
These factors are vital for creating supportive and inclusive environments for LGBTQ students and the guide provides comprehensive information on the top colleges that offer these resources. Click here to view the guide.

My Eyes Are Up Here

Warner Womanmaker bra ad, circa 1964
A reader, who is considering taking Estrogen in order to enhance her bust, wrote, “You have mentioned on more than one occasion that you have been naturally blessed with something like B-cup breasts. But with that enhancement to your preferred life, how do you handle your appearance when in drab? My perhaps naive impression is that they must be rather prominent in something like a polo shirt and, of course, even more prominent if ever in public with no shirt at all.

“Has your blessing presented any difficulties when presenting as male? Do you take any measures to minimize their prominence under those circumstances? Or do you simply get on with life without concerns about what other people might think? I would be very grateful for any insights you might offer.”

I replied...

I don’t swim or go to the beach, so I am almost never topless in public. In fact, I can’t recall the last time I was topless in public.

On those occasions when I was topless in the past, a few neanderthals made comments suggesting that I needed a bra. One troglodyte even offered to lend me his girlfriend’s. Their comments, especially from friends and relatives, were hurtful, but I ignored them and went on with my life.

Clothed, my breasts are not obvious unless I wear a tight top. In my opinion, my breasts are no more obvious, probably less so than the man boobs that overweight guys shamelessly display, so I am not concerned with my perky twins.

I hope that helps.

For what it’s worth, when I measured my bust, I came up with B cups, but when I went for a bra fitting by a pro, she insisted that I had C cups.

And so it goes.
