In and Out

What is stylish today may be passé tomorrow, but the day after tomorrow, it may become stylish again.

I have been femulating for 55 years, so I own clothing that has gone around the block more than once. I also regretfully disposed of clothing that came back in style after their exit from my wardrobe.

What to keep and what to trash is a crapshoot, but an article posted on WhoWhatWear provides some guidance in that regard. (Sure glad I saved everything leopard!)

Sunday night, while I was switching back and forth between the Red Sox-Yankee game on ESPN and The Birds on Sundance, I recalled that growing up, Ted Williams was my idol. But a girl's got to know her limitations and I knew I would never grow up to be Ted Williams (who would?). But maybe I could grow up to be Tippi Hedren.

Was she gorgeous or what? The outfits she wore in her films were to die for. I wanted to dress up and be a woman just like her.

My Expanding Wardrobe

Sans Bra

The four dresses I ordered from JustFab arrived and to my surprise, they all fit. They are all revealing more or less, so I will have to make sure I have bras in my wardrobe that will work with each dress. 

Otherwise, I will have to go bra-less.

I went to Wally Mart yesterday to buy panties and camis. (I usually wear panties and camis under my male disguise.)

I bought two packages of each.

At home after work, I opened the packages of panties and to my dismay, they shorted me one pair of panties.

Next, I opened the packages of camis and to my surprise, there was an extra cami.

At home, there is next to no discussion about the other woman (me). My wife and daughter have accepted her and there is not much more to say. So it always surprises me when my wife or daughter broach the subject out of the blue.

My wife has been going through her dearly departed mother's stuff and last evening, she offered some of my mother-in-law's stuff to me. Three necklaces and a black cape.

I graciously accepted the offer and added the items to my wardrobe.

As I mentioned earlier, my mother-in-law was a fashionista and she spared no expense on her wardrobe, so the necklaces are not junk jewelry and the cape did not come from Wally Mart.
I can't wait to wear them.

The Other Side of My Closet

Janie's blog post today inspired me to write the following.

One side of my closet is fresh and vibrant, the other side, not so much.

On one side of my closet, new items appear regularly and old worn-out items are replaced.

On the other side of my closet, there is dust on some items; old worn-out items are not thrown out unless absolutely necessary and are seldom replaced.

Guess which side of the closet is which?

The girl side of my closet is growing, while the boy side remains the same. It has gotten so crowded on the girl side that I moved all my special occasion dresses to an unused corner of my wife's closet.

My collection of shoes and bags is getting out of hand, too, and I am storing some of those items in my wife's closet.

I have not bought anything new from the men's aisles since late last winter and that was on the occasion of my regular undies purge in which I throw out all of my boy panties and camies and replace them with a fresh set.

Although the boy side of my closet is old and neglected, I buy new items for the girl side all the time.

It's like I'm getting ready to live as a woman full-time.

I don't have a middle name, but I kind of like the name Jacqueline. I came up with that after a woman at the True Colors Conference last Saturday said that the dress I wore looked like something Jacqueline Kennedy would have worn. I like that.

Over on The Huffington Post, Greg Voakes writes that a "Study Finds Increasing Support for Transgender Rights in the U.S.," which is good news indeed.

Looking forward to a big night out next Saturday when I will get dressed to the nines to attend the annual banquet of the Connecticut Outreach Society. Did I mention that I will be performing during the Follies portion of the banquet? I have lip-synched to tunes in past banquet Follies, but this year I plan to do something completely different. Stay tuned for a full report after the fact.

Putting Your Closet on a Diet

Do you have items in your wardrobe that you are “saving” because they have sentimental value, are “too pretty to wear,” are timeless, or cost a lot of money? 

I don't know about you, but that pretty much describes moi to a T. As a result, my closets are overflowing and I can use help.

Stuck in an Online Fashion Rut?

Ginger Burr is an image consultant who presented at a Connecticut Outreach Society meeting in October. She was very good, so I subscribed to her e-mail list, where she offers advice to improve your female visage.

Since so many of us girls depend on online resources to shop for our feminine wardrobes, I thought Ginger's advice today was particularly relevant: Are You Stuck in an Online Fashion Rut?
