Catching Up in My Platform Pumps

Combine the holiday weekend with a goal of finishing my income taxes once and for all and everything else suffered including my blog and e-mail correspondence.

My taxes are done and last night I caught up with my e-mail correspondence. However, I believe that one or two e-mails slipped through the cracks and got trashed inadvertently. So if you e-mailed me last week and have not received a reply, please resend your e-mail.

The blog will resume its normally scheduled programming, too.

So let's talk about shoes.

I ordered two pairs from Nine West that showed up at my abode in early January, but I only had an opportunity to wear them in real life recently.

I wore my buff "Flute" peep-toe pumps (all leather upper, 4 1/2" heel and 3/4" platform) all day-long at the True Colors Conference. They were comfortable throughout the day and I only took them off and slipped on flats while driving.

But - and this is a big BUT – my left shoe kept slipping off my foot! I had to grip my toes when I walked so I did not lose the shoe.

After that experience, I invested in a pair of heel gripper inserts. I have not worn the Flutes since, so the jury is still out on how well the gripper works, but I hope they work because I love my Flutes.

The other pair I bought, the black patent "Love Fury" (pointy-toe platform pump with all leather upper, 4 1/2" heel and 3/4" platform) worried me because of their pointy-toe design. I prefer rounded-toe designs because they usually are more comfortable than pointy-toe, but this girl needed a new pair of black patent heels (wore out my old pair) and pointy-toes are in again, so Love Fury was my choice.

I decided to break them in while I was home doing my taxes. My tax routine is to wrestle with TurboTax for an hour or so, mumble something obscene under my breath in the direction of the computer, then take a break for a half-hour or so (get coffee, get rid of coffee, etc.). As a result, I am not sitting all day long, but am moving around occasionally.

Turns out my Love Fury pumps are very comfortable and unlike my Flutes, they stayed on my feet. Now I can't wait to wear them out!

Monday Musings

Spiegel had a 30% off sale this weekend and I bought two dresses I had been yearning for ever since they appeared in their spring collection. The list prices of the two dresses were already reduced by 12%, so the dresses were actually discounted 38% off list price. How could I resist?

The Zoe Mod Dress (orange multi-color) and the Deco Dress (in blue and white) are on the way. The Deco Dress runs small, so I hope they fit and I won't be disappointed.

I spent most of Sunday doing my income taxes (and that is why today's blog is a little late). To show you where my priorities are, according to my tax records, I spent $1460 on women's wear for myself last year and $97 on men's wear!

Saturday night, I watched Men in Black 3. I liked Men in Black, was disappointed with Men in Black 2, but was pleasantly surprised by Men in Black 3 and I enjoyed the film very much.

I did not expect it, but there is one trans moment in the film. Agent J (played by Will Smith) travels back in time to the year 1969 and visits Andy Warhol's Factory during a "happening." As he passes through the crowd in The Factory, a beautiful female greets him with a very deep masculine voice. According to IMDB, the "Transvestite at Happening" was played by Javier Rivera AKA Rebecca Glasscock, “who was one of the nine contestants cast for the first season or RuPaul's Drag Race.”

Ups and Downs

I had a TurboTax weekend and managed to almost finished my taxes with the government owing me money. Yay!

There was just one loose end: a tax-related document from my employer that I did not understand and could result in me getting back less money from the government or actually owing money. I didn't lose any sleep over it, but I did lose sleep because my body clock was still confused by the switch to Daylight Saving Time. Boo!

I resolved the issue first thing this morning at work; it turned out that the document had no effect on my taxes. Yay!

Then I met with my boss for my annual review. This was my first review from this boss, who replaced my old boss last December. My review was a stinker. It was the worst review I've received since I began working for this company 13 years ago. Boo!

My previous 12 reviews were all excellent reviews, so did my work suddenly turn into garbage during the past year?

Go figure!
