Slots of Fun!

Yesterday's post was short. After I returned home from the casino, I went to bed early without writing much about my day (other than mentioning my big win) because I had a nasty stomach ache. I don't know if it was something I ate or an illness, but I felt very sick and my stomach is still not 100% as I start writing this 24 hours later.

Pat asked what I wore to the casino and I replied to her comment with "I wore black leggings, white sweater, black pumps, and black bag. I have no photos --- did not bring my camera and my iPhone was not cooperative."

I did take a few selfies with my iPhone, but erased them by mistake. The only photo that survived was the slot machine photo that I took with the Camera app, whereas I took the selfies with the Selfie app, which I am a novice at using.

I arrived at the casino around 9:30 AM and the place was very quiet, but it filled up as buses deposited 2,500 senior citizens at the casino doors in the late morning just about the time my luck changed for the better.

It has gotten to the point that I am not as aware of the public I pass through as I have been in the past. In that not too distant past, I was noticed everyone around me to see how they reacted.

It turns out that very few people react to me because, I assume they don't notice me. I am invisible, more or less, just like other middle-aged women.

A small minority of men and women check me out, but I don't know why because no one ever confronts me. So why should I waste my time worrying about others? Instead, I just try to enjoy myself because after all, girls just want to have fun!

1600 Quarters

slots

The above photo depicts a rare sight – a slot machine paying a jackpot!

I went to the casino yesterday to play slots and during the first two hours, I was not doing well --- not losing a lot, but definitely winning less than I was losing.

I was ready to pack it in, but decided to try my luck at the older casino at the other end of the shopping mall that connects the old and new casinos at Mohegan Sun.

Right off the bat, I started doing well at this two quarter machine and then it happened --- the three double diamond ovals rolled into place and I hit the jackpot, which is the top prize that the slot machine offers. My two quarter bet returned 1600 quarters!

I have been playing slots for years and usually do well, but I have never hit a jackpot until yesterday!

And so it goes.

Fun at the Sun

Friday, I went to the Mohegan Sun casino to play slots and have fun.

It was a miserable drive from my home to the casino with heavy rain falling the entire trip. The bad weather and slowed traffic added almost 30 minutes to the normal 75-minute trip.

I arrived at the casino at 11 AM and found it busier for midday weekday than it has been in awhile. Either the economy is better or a lot of vacationers abandoned the nearby beaches of Long Island Sound for some dry indoor activities.

I played quarter slots for the first 90 minutes and was down about $10. After lunch, I switched to two-cents and one-cent slots and my luck improved. By the time I quit and headed for home, I had $248 more in my purse than when I arrived!

People-wise, I had one very interesting encounter. When I ate lunch --- a glass of seltzer and a salad topped with grilled chicken --- I sat at the bar rather than at a table in Big Bubba's BBQ because I wanted to check out all the breweriana on display behind the bar.

Half way through eating my salad, I had a new real life experience! A middle-aged guy sat next to me, ordered a beer, and began chatting with me.

I cleared my throat, spoke softly and held up my half of the conversation.

After about 10 minutes, I emptied my glass of seltzer and the guy asked me if he could buy me a drink.

"Where was this going?" I wondered. I did not want to find out, so I played the spoken-for card.

"No thank-you," I said, "I'm happily married."

"Is your husband here?" he asked.

"What difference does that make?" I asked.

"Well, he is a very lucky guy."

"Thank-you," I said.

"It was nice meeting you."

"Nice meeting you, too," I returned.

With that, he paid his bill and left the restaurant.

Wow!

There is nothing else unusual to report except that I noticed a few guys checking me out throughout the day. I interacted with other people, both male and female, customers and casino staff alike, and everyone treated me like a lady.

The only negative thing about the day is that I forgot my camera. The accompanying photo is from my trip to Dayton in May. I basically wore the same outfit to the casino as in the photo. The only difference is that I wore a different pair of leggings; same color, but with lace-trimmed cuffs instead of zippered cuffs.

It was another wonderful day!

Beach Weather

I saw my first love in music last night: the Beach Boys in concert at the Mohegan Sun Arena. My family gave me the tickets as a birthday gift and my daughter accompanied me to the show, while my wife and sister played slots. It was a great concert with all the living original Beach Boys performing 42 songs in in approximately 2-1/2 hours.

After the concert, we discovered that my wife and sister had done very well playing slots while we were in the arena. My daughter insisted on playing the slots, too. It was after 11 PM with a 75-minute ride home ahead of us, so I was not too keen on delaying our departure, but we agreed to play for about 15 minutes and then head home.

Instead of killing the 15-minutes watching her play the penny slots, I decided to play the quarter slots in the next row. I slipped a $10 bill in the first machine and five minutes later, I went away with $43.

I found my daughter and she was winning, too, so I let her be and slipped another $10 bill in a different quarter slot machine. On the third play, I won $150.

The night could not get much better so I decided to quit while I was ahead.
