Womanless High School

In August, Starla, the intrepid high school yearbook explorer, sent me a batch of womanless event photos that she culled from online yearbooks. This set was lost on my hard disk until today when I heard the voice of one of the womanless participants crying out, "Post me, post me."

I did some investigating and discovered that I was not hearing things; there were a bunch of womanless photos that I failed to upload to flickr. So I corrected the error of my ways and 14 new images, like the one on the left, from womanless events of the near and distant past now reside on my flickr page where you may view them in two ways:

Method 1: Open one of the Yearbooks sets (A through Z) and you will find the newest uploads at the end/bottom of the set. (The oldest uploads appear at the beginning/top of the set.)

Method 2: Open my photostream and you will find the newest uploads at the top of page 1. The uploads get older as the page numbers get higher with the oldest uploads on the last page.

The contents of the Yearbook A through Z sets are organized according to school name, for example, the photos from Sacred Heart High School would be in the Yearbooks S set.

Stats

After I uploaded the images to flickr, I checked the statistics and was surprised that this image of me has the most views (92,070) of all the images I have uploaded to  flickr. I am surprised because in my opinion, there are better images of me to view on flickr, but the customer is always right.

The most viewed womanless image is this 1980 photo from Wolfson High School in Jacksonville, Florida, with 72,024 views. Looking at the photo, it is obvious why it is popular, but my favorite is the second most viewed (71,536) womanless image: an excellent femulation by a Texas beauty in 1981.

You All

By the way, if you participated in your school's womanless beauty pageant or attended some other school activity en femme, I would love to post your photos along with any description you would like to provide. (No one has taken me up on this offer, so far, but I am still hopeful and very patient!)

Halloween Redux

Back to the Bank

I went to my bank yesterday to withdraw money to buy groceries. This is the same bank I visited on Halloween en femme.

The teller (Miss K) was the first woman I saw walking into the bank last week. The other two women staffing the bank were not working when I last visited the bank. One (Miss C) is the teller I often deal with at the drive-through window. The other (Miss L) is the branch manager, who refinanced my mortgage. So they both know me well as a regular customer.

Miss K handled my withdrawal and then she brought up the topic of Halloween. She said my "costume" was the best she had ever seen. Then she asked me if I had a photo on my iPhone so she could show Miss C.

Of course, I did and she called Miss C over to see my photo. Needless to say, she was floored. Then she asked Miss L if she had seen my Halloween costume photo.

Miss L replied, "No, but I heard about it."

Evidently, my costume was the talk of the bank staff. (I dress to impress!)

I showed Miss L my photo and she was amazed, too.

Waiting for the other shoe to drop

Everyday, Payless sends me an email advertisement. Wednesday's ad contained the following image of footwear for sale at their store. Notice that the images were clearly labeled "SHOP WOMEN" so customers would not mistaken the practical, virile ladies' styles as men's footwear.

I wonder when my daily Payless missives will contain an image like the following — footwear for sale at their stores clearly labeled "SHOP MEN" so customers would not mistaken the impractical, dainty gentlemen's styles as women's footwear.

No Fantasia Fair for Me

On Sunday, a sister blogger wrote, "While I’m packing for Fantasia Fair this week some random thoughts…"

It takes me at least a week to pack for Fantasia Fair, so I took her comment to mean that she will be packing this week for Fantasia Fair, which is next week.

Monday morning, I woke up and smelled the coffee. I looked at the calendar and realized that she actually meant that Fantasia Fair is this week!

A couple of things threw me off.

She posted on Sunday that she was packing, but on Sunday she should be in her car on her way to Provincetown (or already there) and not home packing.

The other thing that threw me off is that being semi-retired, I am not as calendar aware as I was when I was working. (What day is it?)

Anyway, Fantasia Fair is this week and I will not be attending. I will miss the sights and sounds of Provincetown and I will miss my friends who will be attending.

I thought about driving to Provincetown (it's a four-hour trip), spend a day or two during the Fair to meet up with my friends and take in the events that are open to the public. But that takes a little planning and obviously, since I did not even remember that the Fair was this week, I did not plan ahead.

In the past, I had a wonderful time at Fantasia Fair and I am sure I would have a good time if I attended again.

Maybe next year!

(If you would like to find out more about Fantasia Fair, I recommend my book Fantasia Fair Diaries.)

Just for Halloween?

Hello Stana,

I have a couple of queries regarding your "fancy dress" work appearances (which iI'm guessing is some kind of white-collar environment):

1 - Don't your colleagues ask you (well, at least female ones anyway, as men might think their masulinity and/or sexuality might be questioned in some way if they did): How come you seem to be very good at turning yourself into a woman and enquire as to if there might be a bit more to it than the occasional halloween appearance?

2 - Do all (or even any) of your female colleagues dress so smartly and glamourously for work? I suspect not in this day and age, where even most offices allow casual wear (which means it's far more likely trousers are worn rather than skirts and dresses).

Yours,

Gina V

Hi Gina,

1 - Believe it or not, no one, male or female, has ever asked. Some have made humorous comments and some have complimented me on my appearance. I can only recall one snarky comment: one fellow wonderers how I just happened to have all the makings of my costume just for Halloween, inferring that I dressed on other occasions, too.

2 - There were about 15 females in my office (about 60 males). About half the women are engineers or programmers and they dress casually. The other half are office workers and they dress like office girls. Some (like me) dress nicer than others, so I definitely fit in with the office girls.

Halloween is less than three months away. Although I am semi-retired, some of my former co-workers asked if I would visit them en femme on October 31.

I said I would.

Sunday Afternoon

One week has passed since my last posting here. Since then, I have received e-mails wondering why the lapse and if I am OK.

I assure you that all is well and I am just enjoying my first care-free summer since 1967.

Two Sundays ago, the other women in this abode attended a bridal shower. I was not invited since the people doing the inviting were not aware that I am a woman, too. So I had the whole afternoon to myself.

It was hot and humid, so I dressed appropriately. Since losing weight, I don't need all the shapewear I needed in the past, which is a blessing in this weather. I just wore a waist cincher to add some curvature to my figure.

I wore my last Dress Barn purchase again because it is perfect for summer weather. It is sleeveless, collarless and made of a light and airy material.

After dressing, but before departing, I took the dogs out to do what they had to do. One pass up and down our long driveway is all that is required, but I have never done it in broad daylight (pun intended). Two cars drove by and since we live on a dead end, they were likely neighbors not not strangers passing through, but I doubt if they recognized me.

My day out was uneventful.

I shopped at a relatively new Dress Barn store and was welcomed by a pretty sales rep, who immediately recognized the dress I was wearing and complimented me on my outfit. I tried on a few things, but I did not find anything that I wanted to buy.

Then I went to my favorite Chinese restaurant where I had dined in boy mode with the family just a few weeks ago. The waiter, who is also the owner and the same person who waited on us during our previous visit, seated me and did not seem to recognize me. He referred me as "Miss" throughout the hour I spent at the restaurant and did not blink an eye when I went to the ladies' room before departing.

I drove home, took the dogs out again and then decompressed after a pleasant Sunday afternoon as my true self.

Got Mod?

Being a retro kind of girl, I like the styles ModCloth sells. Yet, I have only purchased one item from them mainly due to size issues (some of the items I liked were not available in my size).

As luck would have it, the ModCloth dress I did buy was a little too big, but not so big that I had to return it. I have not worn it since I lost weight, so it is probably way too big now, but I liked it a lot and may have it taken in once I reach my goal weight.

It seems that I am not the only gurly girl who likes ModCloth as evidenced by this image I found on the Internet recently!
