I Want My MTV

I watched MTV a lot during what I consider was its heyday, that is, when it played music videos 24/7. My watch occasionally paid off when a femulator appeared in a video. Some of the music video femulators were drop-dead gorgeous, while others were men in dresses.

Recently I took a tour of YouTube searching for music video femulations and I uncovered three in which the band members start the video in boy mode, but end the video en femme.

The three culprits are:

👠 “Heterosexual Man” by Odds (with guest appearances by some Kids in the Hall including femulator extraordinaire Dave Foley)

👠 “My Girl” by Little Odessa

👠 “Stef II” by Indochine (photo above)

Becoming Sheila

Femulate reader Peter suggested this "very nice video featuring the famous Sheila Wolf." I agree it is a very nice video and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Your Presentation Sounds Feminine

Singer Michał Kwiatkowski femulates Madonna on Polish television's Twoja Twarz Brzmi Znajomo in this video from YouTube. This is one of the most convincing femulations in the Your Face Sounds Familiar franchise that I have seen so far. I had to do some research before I was convinced that Michał was indeed male.

By the way, Michał Kwiatkowski, the Polish singer is not Michał Kwiatkowski, the Polish bicycle racer.

Have You Seen Your Brother, Baby, Standing in High Heels?

Commenting on the "Moaning Lisa Smile" post, Beverly wrote,
I'm not sure, but I think the first use of a trans person in a music video was The B-52's "Love Shack." My trans-radar always went off when I saw that video. Then I found out the video was the debut of the tall woman of color with the huge hair. A local Georgia girl named Ru Paul who was a friend of the band.
"Love Shack" was a hit in 1989 and I recall seeing the video, but I missed Ru Paul.

Back then, I watched music videos on MTV and recall a number of trans moments, but I don't know if they involved actual trans people. For example, in ZZ Top's 1984 video for "Legs," there is a young guy in a boutique dress-shopping. Who knows if the actor playing the guy was actually trans ― probably not.

Then there's David Bowie's music video for his 1979 hit "Boys Keep Swinging" in which he appears in three drag personas. David claimed he was bisexual, but never trans, although he appeared in female clothing quite often, especially early in his career.

Before there were "music videos," as popularized by MTV, there were promotional films made to stimulate the sale of singles. For example, The Beatles made a bunch of these and they would be shown on The Ed Sullivan Show in lieu of live appearances by the Fab Four.

The Rolling Stones made a promo film for their 1966 single "Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow?" If you recall, the front side of the picture sleeve of the 45 RPM recording of that song had the boys standing around in a group, while the back side of the picture sleeve had the boys standing around dressed as girls.

The promo film for "Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow?" shows the band performing the song interspersed with clips of the boys getting dressed en femme for the picture sleeve photoshoot. Needless to say, that version of the promo did not get much airplay anywhere in 1966.

Moaning Lisa Smile

I watched the Grammy Awards Monday night primarily to see Eagles perform live one more time. Sans Glenn Frey, Jackson Browne sang lead on “Take It Easy.” That was the highlight of the show for me, although I also enjoyed the Lionel Richie tribute.

I was not familiar with 95% of the rest of the music, so the rest of the show was not of much interest and I headed for bed with an hour of awards left to go. However, just before I shut off the TV, my trans-radar went off when there was a snippet from a music video by Wolf Alice for their song titled “Moaning Lisa Smile.”

I viewed the video on YouTube and the three make members of the band appear en femme throughout the video. See the screen captures of the video above and below or see the video for yourself here.

Boys’ Girl Day

By Cheryl

boy's-day

It seems that it is common for boy bands in South Korea to perform while crossdressed. Recently, I was surfing the Internet and found this example of a great femulation in South Korea.

Music Core is a South Korean music television program. The show features popular artists who perform live on stage.

It recently completed its 400th show and to celebrate this milestone, they featured a popular girl band called Girl’s Day. As part of the special show, they asked members from four different boy bands to join forces, create a group called “Boy’s Day” and to perform on the show. The catch was that the boy band members were to perform dressed as girls.

Here are links (one, two, and three) to websites displaying photos of the group and here are links (one and two) to YouTube videos of the group’s performance.

This is not just some quickly thrown together crossdressing; rather it is excellent femulation. A lot effort was made to make each member look as feminine as possible.

By the way, each of these boy band members has previously crossdressed. Just Google the name of each band member or the name of their original group to see many examples of their fondness for heels and lipstick.

Videos You Must See

2013-02-05_stav_strashko

Two must-see transgender videos came my way in the last 24 hours.

Thanks to Juan over at New Male Fashions for the Alternative Man, I viewed a new music video, Push the Button by Alon Ben Ziv, featuring the gender ambiguous Stav Strashko. Click here to take you to Juan's blog where you can view it. You will be amazed and probably confused!

The other video comes by way of India and it is a promo for a DVD of Aravani Girl, an award-winning film that documents the lives of five Indian teenage boys who have decided to change their sex. The promo sold me and I think it might convince you to buy the DVD, too. Click here to view the video.

It's a Mixed Up Shook Up World

This gender role reversal music video has it all: pregnant males, male nurses in high heels, fishnets, and see-through minidresses, males wearing makeup, males acting femininely, females acting masculinely, etc., etc., etc.

Anyone have the English translation of the lyrics?
