Stuff 63: Sensations

What Do You Notice?

By J.J. Atwell

I’m wondering what sensations you, my dear readers, notice most when you are dressed. Is it the way the clothes move? How the breeze feels on areas that normal guy clothing covers? Perhaps the click of heels when you walk?

I know that JJ is aware of those things plus a few others. Some examples: the sensation of having long hair and having to deal with it when eating; the effect of long hair somewhat restricting peripheral vision when I’m out; or if I’m wearing false eyelashes, I notice them when I first put them on, but after awhile that fades.

The feel of the clothes around me is also something I’m aware of. If I wear leggings or stretchy jeans I notice the tug on my body as I move. I don’t typically wear snug tops so I’m less aware of that feeling on my upper torso. But I do notice things like the gentle hug of my bra and of course the boobs hanging there. That’s especially noticeable in the car with the shoulder harness crosses over them.

How about having long, colorful nails? JJ almost always uses press-on nails when she is going out. The color and shape vary from outing to outing, but seeing them as I’m doing things is one of those sensations I notice. That and the inability to pick up items that my guy side wouldn’t have an issue grabbing.

Do GGs Notice That, Too?

I asked my friend Gigi if she notices those same things. I had guessed that women don’t normally notice them because it is all just so normal for them. Gigi confirmed that it isn’t something she notices, but she had an interesting observation. When she is getting ready for a special outing, she spends a bit of time thinking about how she is going to look. That is, how the outfit works for her shape and the colors for her complexion. She also considers how all the accessories coordinate or accent the presentation.

I thought that was a very good point. I know when I’m planning an outing I do think a bit about what to wear. But that thinking is more along the lines of dress/skirt vs. jeans. So far, I haven’t progressed to the point of thinking more about the whole look. I count myself lucky if I’ve managed to match the top with the bottom. Including the color and accessories in my planning is a bit beyond me. Those things usually occur to me once I’m mostly dressed and now have to find the right shoes, belt, bag and jewelry.

I’ll Be Back

I’ll be thinking about how to improve my presentation with more advance planning. In the meantime I’ll be finding more Stuff to write about. I welcome comments and suggestions here on Stana’s page or by email at Jenn6nov at-sign gmail dot com.

  1. You know JJ, as it has just recently warmed up in New England, I’ve starting wearing hosiery again, as opposed to fleeced tights and noticed I can feel the swish of my skirt on my legs again! Such a fabulous feeling.

I also went shopping and suddenly felt a cold air up my skirt and suddenly wondered if it had fallen off. Looking down, I half expected to see it pooled around my legs and noticed I was standing over an air vent! I had on a pencil skirt and the air was not strong, so no danger of it flying up, but I suddenly felt a bit Marilyn Monroe, Lol.

Aside from this, I can always feel nail polish when I wear it. Not a horrid or uncomfortable feeling, but you can tell it is on.

Hair when driving is always a thing too, and having to turn my head more when changing lanes. It takes a minute if I’ve not been en femme a while, but I get used to it if I’m en femme a few days, and don’t think about it. I also just keep a bunch of extra hair clips in my car now too.

    Hugs,
    Norah

  2. Things I wear that remind me they are there.
I have let my hair grow since the beginning of Covit, now the longest strands are to my bra band. It reminds me all the time of how I prefer to present. Always, stays in a pony tail when in guy mode.
When I put on a corset and it gives me a wonderful shape.
The feeling of garder belt straps on my thighs.
I wear two sets of earrings, both are small ovals like a gong but hollow in the middle that hang down about an inch. When my head moves they make lovely chime against each other that only my ears can hear.,
These are a coupe of the things I continually feel, and enjoy, when dressed. How could anyone not notice your own long hair, a tighten to the max corset, the delightful chime of your earrings only you can hear, garder belt straps moving on your thighs as you move and after a couple hours, the not so delightful pain of a clip-on earrings.
I look forward to reading your blog everyday Sherie

  3. Cisgender women definitely like to feel feminine and pretty. They have a strong psychological need to express this part of themselves just like we do. I wrote an article about this with sources for Femulate last year for what it’s worth. Here’s a link. Paula G

    1. Hi Paula, Thank you for sharing the link to your 2023 article. I especially liked all the comments you included from cisgender women about what made them feel pretty! The one that stuck out for me...possibly because it's something I sometimes do...is wearing fanciest underwear under drab clothes.

  4. I watched a fashion video the other day a cisgender woman was talking about a retro shirt dress that she found she described that she couldn’t wait to try it on. She got home and ran upstairs and put it on and then she came down and it made her feel so pretty. You could see the joy in her face. I thought to myself that’s not much different than how I feel.

  5. You are right JJ. Bra straps, pantyhose, dangle earings, the fit of a high heel and silk fabrics against skin. Many of us enjoy slightly windy weather to get the swirling skirt effect but my chunky ankle bracelet also provides haptic feedback. Sometimes you can wear multiple bracelets fior more effect. I love your articles JJ because it helps me be better or look better Hugs Brenda

  6. The feel of feminine clothes is one of the reasons I love them so much. Soft and silky fabrics like cashmere and satin caressing my skin. The weight of breast forms and the constriction of a bra around my chest. The pinch of sharply pointed stilettos and their irresistible tapping on a hard floor. And even after wearing sheer pantyhose an infinite number of times, I still get a thrill putting them on, watching my legs go from blah to beautiful as I pull them up my legs.

  7. Hi JJ, Something I've been doing forever when looking at a woman's outfit is imagining how I would make it my own. What accessories would I wear? Would I wear different shoes? Would I add hosiery?

Perhaps visualizing the possibilities is something you may want to try to help "improve your presentation" as you stated.

  8. I am dresses only, not a pair of pants do I own (women's).
I love the cool evening breeze playing with the hem of my dress and slips. It never gets so cold where I live that it would freeze my legs. I remember when living in NYC that my wife cursed wearing the required dress/skirt for her office when waiting for the elevated line on a freezing day. Brrr and grr!
There is the necessity of whisking away the stray hairs that tickle my face when looking down.
There is the falling down bra strap that needs to be adjusted.
Getting into the car seat requires sitting down with legs outside and then rotating legs to the facing forward position. No just sticking the right leg it.
Sit with knees closed, no open views. No legs jutting out into the room with legs crossed at the ankles.
Tug that skirt of the dress down and smooth it out before sitting.
There's a lot to learn that little girls learn on their way to womanhood. We have an accelerated course.

    1. I don't wear trousers anymore. The last time I wore them was for my mother's funeral in late September of 2024.
I have 48 dresses; my sister-in-law has only 3. And for formal wear I wear heels, makeup, and hoop earrings. My hair is past shoulder length and I have painted nails.
My outfit for extremely cold weather is a thermal maxidress and boots.

    2. Yes yes yes exactly. I love adjusting my bra strap, a garter, wearing a noiser eating just to be constantly reminded. hugs Brenda
