Musk may use Social Security data to target trans

By Daniel Villarreal for LGBTQNation

“Musk recently accessed Social Security data to help the Trump administration weaponize it against trans people and their allies.

“Zinnia Jones, a transgender activist and researcher, told Rolling Stone that the SSA data could be used to “identify nearly all likely transgender people in the U.S. with 99% confidence.” Jones noted that a 2015 U.S. Census Bureau used the same SSA data that DOGE accessed to estimate the nation’s trans population.

“An anonymous former federal employee agreed with Jones’ assessment, adding that the information could be used to identify and remove trans employees from the government. An anonymous current SSA employee also told Rolling Stone that the information could be used to harass medical providers who offer services of which the current administration disapproves. Currently, these services include gender-affirming care, a type of care that the current administration has sought to defund and eradicate completely.”

  3. I don't doubt it. But the trans community has two strengths. One is that the overwhelming majority of trans/genderfluid/CD people are in the closet and and are unknown even to the internet, let alone the authorities. And the other is that Musk's or anyone else's researches will likely show up that some very prominent figures in or associated with the Trump administration are trans or crossdress or have a trans kink or their relatives do. Which would be a bit embarrassing for the administration. Sue x

  4. I hate Trump and Musk with every fiber of my being, but, I am sorry to say that this report is hyperbolic. I spent 37 years working for SSA. There is no reason SSA would have anyone's medical records unless they filed for disability. People file applications for Medicare at a Social Security office, but SSA does not administer the program, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid does. And applying for Medicare does not involve providing medical records if you're age 65 (and medical records are not digitized, they are paper records. It would take an army of Doge stooges to review millions of files.) SSA has no reason for anyone's tax records - work records are known for obvious reasons, but not your tax returns. And no one filing would have any reason to provide any detailed family information - SSA does not know who your siblings are or relatives beyond parents shown on a birth certificate, unless the claim is for children's benefits from a deceased parent.

We have many legitimate reasons to scorn and hate this administration, but let's not create fears that are highly unrealistic.
