When I was just getting started in all this, I was fascinated with the undergarments that women (specifically my mother) wore. Since they were hidden under overgarments, there was a mystery to them. They certainly were nothing like the undergarments that the boy (me) wore! And when I began my crossdressing experiment, bras and girdles were a critical part of my wardrobe (don’t leave home without it).
Thing is Ma or Pa never said much about my hobby. They never confronted me that they knew what I was doing when I was home alone, but I think they knew. At least, I think my mother knew. Either that or she believed that crossdressing gremlins were getting into her stuff, breaking bra clasps and girdle zippers and running her nylons. Maybe she hoped I would outgrow my hobby. (Sorry, not yet, Mom!)
Finally, thank you all who wished me a “happy birthday” on Saturday. With my recent fall on the ice, I am definitely feeling my age (74), so I really appreciate all your positive thoughts. (I am still hurting and don’t expect to be wearing a new Rago girdle for a few more weeks!)
UPDATE: I am hooked watching the bald eagles cam on Big Bear Lake. The third egg hatched early Sunday. Hard to believe that someday those three small balls of fur will be magnificent birds like their parents. (Click here to watch the eagle show.)

Happy Belated Birthday. Your post today rings true for me. The first time I really dressed up as a girl I put on my mother's yellow chiffon cocktail dress. The best part was finding one of her panty girdles which had garters to put on. I found a pair of nylons and a slip too. That was in 1967, I was thirteen and while I had no idea what was drawing me into that frightening feminine world, but it felt too fantastic to be real.

Happy belated birthday!🎂
ReplyDeleteAt times in the past, I would wonder if I was being too "artificial" by wearing all of this various shapewear and padded undergarments in order to have a more feminine figure, that if I needed all this assistance, I didn't have an "authentic" female form. But then I would remember I was buying these pieces from a *women's* store because women also sometimes feel the need to give their body a little assistance to create the shape they desire, and then I no longer felt guilty about the sculpting I needed to do.
Loved this posting…..resonated so much with me…74….you say…I am 78 and going strong…..perhaps something very special about our generation.
ReplyDeleteI’m 76 I guess our generation is somehow different than others. With my maiden form shapewear and skinny jeans on.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, I think most crossdressers can identify with your story, For me it was my sisters beige slip, Then it went to my Mother's clothes
ReplyDeleteI also started with my mother's undergarments which were usually hanging in the bathroom after having been handwashed - bras, girdles, stockings. Does anyone remember the belt-like item that was used to hold sanitary napkins? Pulling on a girdle was both a chore and a joy! Everyone of us had to start somewhere and those girdles was it for me.
ReplyDeleteGoing to be 78 this summer. My first foray into women's clothing included my mother's pull-on girdle and hosiery. This was before pantyhose. I have a nice collection of foundation garments: panty-girdles, foundation full slips, foundation half slips (Vanity Fair), body briefers, but my go-to favorite are my garter-girdles to go with my stockings. The garter-girdle covers the abdomen down to the pubic bone. They are my go-to foundation garment because it is the least cumbersome when using the bathroom. To wear a panty under an open-bottom girdle with stockings attached, and needing to sit down in the lavatory is time consuming. It's no wonder women latched onto pantyhose.
