A Woman’s Work is Never Done

The “female Impersonator” in the film Woman on the Run.
Part of my housewife duties is to shop for groceries. Usually I shop at Aldi first and then proceed to Stop & Shop to buy items that Aldi did not stock. Grocery shopping yesterday, I bought a dozen eggs for $5.09 at Aldi. At Stop & Shop, I noticed that the price for a dozen eggs was a trumpian $9.19! Yikes!

While on the subject of housewifery, here is a recipe you might want to file away:

1/2 cup of baking soda, followed by...
1 cup of vinegar, followed by...
Mass quantities of boiling water

That's the recipe for clearing out a blocked sink drain. Last week, my kitchen sink drain froze up due to the sub-freezing weather we have experienced here in January. Washing dishes in the bathroom sink got old fast, so I found this recipe on the Internet and it cleared the drain in less than five minutes!

And yes, I always wear panties in housewife mode, which is 24/7. As they say, a woman’s work is never done.

I have become a fan of film noir and usually catch the weekly film noir showings on TCM. Saturday morning TCM showed Woman on the Run, a potboiler starring Ann Sheridan and Dennis O'Keefe. In the film, the police are following Ann to find out where her murder suspect husband is hiding out.

Initially the police assign a male detective to follow Ann, but after Ann realizes she is being followed by the male detective, the police switch to a female impersonator to follow her. The female impersonator passed with flying colors (photo above), but Ann figured her for just another detective following her.

I suspect that the actor playing the female impersonator was cis female, but I was unable to find who played the part. By the way, you can view the film on Internet Archive.

In yesterday's post, JJ made some excellent points about posing for photographs. If you would like to read more on the topic, click here to read a post I wrote about self-photograpy.

  1. I bought a dozen eggs this past week and they were about $3.59 at Kroger in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area.
And about clogs in my kitchen sink: There have been times when Draino didn't work, making it necessary to get out my power drain auger with the cable being 75 feet long. That unit cost $475. and just by eliminating 2 service calls to unclog drains, the unit pays for itself.

    1. A box of baking soda and a gallon of vinegar cost less than $5... a lot cheaper than a service call or an auger!

    2. The cause of the clogs was some label located about 30 feet down in the cleanout opening. Baking soda and vinegar would not have helped.

  2. Stana dear, great tip, and vinegar has so many great household uses. I add it to my washing machine and it counteracts hard water and makes the towels fluffy. : )
IMDb usually offers very complete cast lists for movies, and may give a lead on the mysterious femulator.

  3. On "Get Smart" there was an agent named Charlie Watkins who was always disguised as a beautiful woman. "He" was portrayed by Angelic Pettyjohn an actress and burlesque star in Las Vegas in the 70's. It's kind of too bad because there were a lot of wonderful female impersonators then who could have played the role.

  5. I was having a problem with ants that were constantly appearing on a kitchen counter. All the commercial products were not helping the situation as well as some home remedies. An internet search produced a remedy that did work: a 50/50 solution of water/vinegar in a spray bottle. On the price of eggs, the local Kroger (Fred Meyer) has raised them to $7.49/dozen. The last time I bought, eggs were $6.06 (crazy number) at Wal-Mart.
