Most of us did not attend our proms en femme. The closest I came was attending my law school reunion en femme. That was an experience I will never forget.
But getting back to proms, I did not attend mine dressed femininely. Doing so at a Catholic high school in 1969 would have been outrageous. If I had done so, I probably would have made it inside the banquet hall hosting the event, but I am sure that an adult chaperone would have thrown me out with all due speed.
Missing the prom en femme, I have lived vicariously through the few who have done so three generations after I missed the boat.
Being me, I have been loosely keeping track of those who have attended proms en femme and over the years, there has been a very slow increase in the numbers of end femme prom attendees. You would think that there would be more than just a handful today. Maybe the popularity of “gay proms” has syphoned off potential en femme “straight prom” attendees.
I ask myself, “Would I attend my prom en femme if I was a high school student today?” I like to think that I would, but even today, it would take a lot of guts to do so. And the opportunity to attend a gay prom en femme would be very attractive as an easier way out.
Anyway, I am pleased to fill the Femulator slot with the girls who did attend their proms en femme.

I didn't attend my prom, but I do attend church wearing a dress, along with painted nails, heels or sandals, and makeup. And my church isn't into the LGB+++ agenda. Most of the women wear trousers. A lot of them wear jeans and sneakers.

I often wonder what happened to these teens who were featured in trans news stories. It's how I was following Nicole Maines and Hunter Schafer before they became TV stars.
ReplyDeleteI believe Viveiros has detransitioned and is back to a gay, though they still are proud of being prom queen, but it seems Andii was more of a drag identity.

ReplyDeleteAll brave (and very attractive) girls. We didn't have such events in the UK in 1959, my last year at high school, but if we did, I wouldn't have dared to go en femme.

ReplyDeleteOh, I love those youthful faces and figures. Brings back memories of what could have been experienced. The mindset of the general public back in 1965 was non-acceptance. I do enjoy watching transformations on Youtube, especially those showing the help of a mother.
ReplyDeleteI graduated HS in 1987, attended my senior prom in a standard rental tuxedo, and don't recall any guys who dressed en femme. But I do still recall how badly I wished I could have been dressed in any of the prom dresses swishing around at the dance! It was the days of colorful satin, puffy sleeves, pantyhose, big hair...

I would have been smiling from ear to ear if I would have been able to go en femme to my prom. In fact, I didn't go to either prom since I hate suits and tuxedos even more and since I couldn't be my true self in that era.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree with you that I absolutely hate suits and tuxedos. I also wear pants only when I have to do things like get up on roofs to replace shingles. If only I have to trim branches above my house I wear a dress with underpants under them so I don't flash anybody. I have not worn pants for over six weeks.
