The film reminds me of Jackie Shane, an R%B singer in the Late 19502 and many years after. Jackie was born a man, but never identified as one. She assumed a female persona and was very popular on the R&B circuit for many years. Unfortunately, in the very many times I went to R&B shows at The Howard Theater in DC I never got to see her. She never had any HRT or other changes done, but always presented as an tall, attractive woman. She found Canada to be a much more welcoming place than her native Tennessee and was enormously popular "up north"
