Responding to the comment, I mentioned that I had gone out so dressed years ago. The accompanying photo shows me wearing tights and no pants.
I recall that when I did it, I thought that there was not much difference between wearing tights without pants and wearing leggings, so I went for it and visited a mall so dressed (or undressed). I felt a little naughty and a little sexy at the time. Yet I don’t recall any reactions positive or negative from civilians I encountered.
That was 18 years ago. At 72+, I still have the legs to pull it off, but at that age, I probably shouldn’t do it.
Anyway, a word of advice if you plan to go out wearing tights as pants: effective tucking is paramount for girls like us. I can’t think of any fashion statement where thorough tucking is more important!

There's duck tape. And what do you use for tucking male junk? Dick tape.
ReplyDeleteNow that is something I will not do, as the shortest dresses I wear are knee length. And trousers, which I seldom wear, are men's pants.

It did not occur to me that young women were using "tights as pants." I just thought they were wearing really short dresses with hosiery. It run across my mind whether they were wearing hosiery or a panty that was opaque; not sheer. If the short dress, hosiery/tights and high boots are the same color (usually black) then the effect is one continuous vision of color.
ReplyDeleteGenerally, the style is wearing tights with a bodysuit/leotard over it without also wearing a skirt, pants, shorts or leggings. The leotard/bodysuit and tights aren’t necessarily of the same color and the tights could also be a tad shearer than opaque. She may also wear a long, unfastened blazer or sweater over the whole ensemble. Regardless, the whole look makes it obvious that she isn’t wearing a standard bottom. Hi Michelle, I read the linked article and it just looked to me like she left her house in a rush and forgot to put on her skirt! I'll often lounge around my house in tights or pantyhose with no skirt or pants, but couldn't imagine walking out the door that way. But that's just me. I'll always support someone who is willing to try a new style❣️
DeleteOff topic - while we were watching Barbie last night my wife shared that The Third Hour of The Today Show (I hope I got that right) had a segment where Hoda and Jenna explained a new term BabyGirl. Interesting - watch the segment and watch Jenna's mannerisms - I swear her husband must be a sissy to.

DeleteAnything involving a short skirt is not my style. They lack my favorite element of feminine clothing— the swish and sway and drape of a flared midi or maxi skirt. Call me “ modest” but just wanna feel graceful and pretty.

My wife and I had a SB party a couple of years ago which was to be a coming out party for Chris. I wanted to wear a skirt or a dress but even I knew no woman would wear that to a SB party. My wife wanted me to wear jeans. We compromised on tights. With a Tom Brady tee shirt as a top. I also felt a bit naughty, and naked, to begin with but two of our guests also wore tights so that made me feel more comfortable.
