Hello All
JJ is back with more stuff!
I wonder how many of us partake in some beauty regimes. As I think about it, I would guess that the answer is most of us. What is your favorite?
Facials
JJ frequents a salon that offers various services including massages, waxing and facials. I usually schedule a massage once a month. But on days that JJ is planning on going out, she likes to get a facial that morning. I find it helps me get a close shave before applying my makeup.
A couple of points about getting a facial. First, it really is pleasurable! You’ll experience lots of different sensations as the technician applies and removes various lotions and serums to your face. All you have to do is just lay back and let it happen.
When going for a facial you’re told not to shave for about 12 hours before your facial. I usually give it a full day. I also schedule it for the morning even if I’m not going out until night.
After the facial, I let my face rest for a few hours. When starting my transformation, I start with a hot shower. I shave with a brand new razor blade, not just once but twice. The second time making sure to go against the grain. This gives a very close shave. That’s very important for me as my beard is relatively heavy. Fortunately, much of it is turning grey, so the five o’clock shadow is less of a problem that I need to cover up. But even so, I need a smooth surface to apply primer and foundation.
So consider getting a facial. Perhaps before your next girls night out!
I’ll be back
I’ll cover more of the makeup process, including getting a makeover, in a future column. Until then, I’d welcome comments here on the blog or by email at Jenn6nov at-sign gmail dot com.

By Tami Knight
I just received notice that the Tennessee wood turning symposium that I have enjoyed in past years is scheduled again for January 2024. I have traveled to both Nashville and Chattanooga attending this two-day program as Tami Knight.
I believe roughly 700 to 800 people attend with 80% or more men. However, there are many women turners there (Women in Turning) who are great artists and have their own meetings and lunches.
The point being, all of us have interests, hobbies, etc. and depending on your comfort level and presentation, you might consider traveling to and attending a large group event such as this (like Stana’s Hamvention trips). Trying a non-transgender-oriented event, but one of interest to females may be just what you need to show yourself that you can do it.
No one at these events has their radar on for you. It is very easy to blend in with all the other women and in fact, make a new friend or two. I have! Attend the lectures, classes and then get out and find a nice restaurant with a new friend in the evening.
Nearly every woman at this event was wearing casual pants and tops. I did as well, but chose a very casual shirt dress on my last day there (as I would fly home later on) and got many compliments before leaving! I stayed at the Read House Hotel in Chattanooga, really enjoyed it and all the staff were wonderful! Try it.
I also belong to a large women’s real estate group in Arizona. At one program I attended years ago, I sat at a table of eight and we all introduced ourselves prior to the speaker starting. The woman to my right and I agreed to meet for lunch the next day and talk business. Halfway through that lunch in, it occurred to me that she did not realize I was trans, so I told her. She was amazed, but unfazed.
We got together again last year and are meeting again in Scottsdale in the coming week as old friends.
Side story: After the program was over, I crossed the gigantic parking lot to get my rental car and found the battery dead as can be. Turning to make the long walk back in the 90-degree heat, a man in a golf cart pulled up and offered a ride! I was wearing a nice dress and heels, but I jumped in the golf cart anyway. He treated me to a quick tour of the grounds and then dropped me off at the lobby door where I called for a tow. Such a gentleman! All’s well that ends well.

More Stuff
Can you believe this is installment #15 of my Stuff? I find it hard to believe it myself and I’m grateful for the opportunity Stana provides for me to express myself.
Outfits
How many of us struggle with putting together an outfit? What goes with what? Does this color top go with the color or pattern in these slacks? Is this skirt too short for the venue? And what bag or shoes go with the whole thing? So many questions! Questions that crossdressers don’t learn about in the process of growing up. Fortunately, there are answers.
I’m grateful to a couple of GGs in my life who help guide my choices. One of them, GiGi, whom we met in Stuff 13, offered this suggestion about proportions and some good guidelines to follow:
Hopefully this provides you with a start when pulling together your next outfit. But remember that these are simply suggestions and you still have to find what works for your body and sense of style. You’re free to follow or disregard as you see fit. Just be sure to look critically in a mirror to see the whole effect. It’s sometimes difficult to put aside our “pink fog” and see what is really there.
It’s nice to have a friend to consult with too. I’m grateful for the advice of a second GG, whom I’ll call Alicia, for her suggestions when I’m pulling an outfit together. Alicia is familiar with my closet and can offer good suggestions about what top/bottom to wear together. Sometimes I’ll send her a picture of what I’m considering and she lets me know if it works or doesn’t. She suggests even the small details about wearing the top tucked in or left out for the best look.
I’ll be back
After I figure out what I want to wear tonight, I’ll be back with more Stuff. In a later blog post I’ll cover occasions to dress for. Comments are welcome either here on the blog or by email to Jenn6nov at-sign gmail dot com. JJ is always looking for more stuff!
