A Very Happy Birthday, Stana. You share it with Micky Dolanz and the late Cyd Charisse among others. And, as befits a birthday girl, your selfie looks wonderful. Penny from Edinburgh.
That picture is a reminder that girls in the 1950's and early 1960's were forced to wear dresses even when playing. Up until a certain age it was OK for girls to wear shorts. Then overnight it seemed girls were thrown into dresses; sometimes against their will. I remember all the complaints from girls when they wore dresses while riding bicycles. Girl's bikes had a "sissy bar" so a girl could get on and off her bike with modesty. Later, the term "sissy bar" evolved into the vertical bar on the back of a bike to support a second rider.
Happy birthday, my dear! And will the audience please note that Stana was already in need of surgical repair when Ike or JFK was president, judging from the big scrape on her knee.
The 'rebel' above looks as if she 'skinned her knee'.

Got your mother in a whirl She's not sure if you're a boy or a girl Hey baby, your hair's alright Hey babe, let's stay out tonight
You like me, and I like it all You love dancing and you look divine You love bands when they're playing hard You want more and you want it fast They put you down, they say I'm wrong You tacky thing, you put them on
Rebel, rebel, you've torn your dress Rebel, rebel, your face is a mess Rebel, rebel, how could they know? Hot tramp, I love you so!

ReplyDeleteIn the late 1950s -early 1960s Stanleys hair alone would have been enough for him to be called a sissy
