There have always been beautiful men and handsome women. We see what current drag performers can do with our current "super" makeup materials. But Gayle Powers had to get by with the same makeup my mother had available to her. -- and did she ever!. She apparently was with The Jewel Box Revue, but in all those performances of the Revue I saw in the 1950s and 1960s she doesn't ring a bell. She was probably "just a 'pony', or chorus girl". "Just", don't I wish! There was so much beauty on the stage it boggled my mind, and set me to dreaming.
I love 20s fashion and Art Deco design. My role-model is the Honorable Phryne Fisher, Australian lady-detective, as embodied by Essie Davis in the television series and movie "Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears".
Not many women can climb a drain-pipe in heels to break into a private club to look for clues, wield a gold-plated revolver, drive fast cars, fly aeroplanes, and bed men--- all while solving multiple murders and while looking absolutely fabulous in couture. A female James Bond from the 1920s.
