What’s Up, Patient?

I shave everything I can reach from the neck down.

In the past, I did not shave if I had an upcoming doctor’s appointment because I did not want a doctor asking me about my shaved body parts.

Some time ago, I stopped worrying and now I see my doctors in a shaved body. No one in the doctor’s office ever questioned me about it. Even when I had varicose vein surgery and had to display my shaved legs to the doctor, nurses and technicians on the day of surgery and during three follow-up visits, no one said a word about my shaved legs.

Who knows what was said, if anything, behind my back?

But after all my recent doctor visits, it dawned on me that no one has ever broached the subject. Maybe the Hippocratic Oath precludes it – I dunno, but it has never been an issue.

For that matter, few civilians have ever mentioned my hairlessness. I only recall it happening when I dressed for Halloween en femme and someone remarked that I shaved my legs!

And so it goes.

  1. I know some medical professionals. At least in their experience, professionalism is expected in the presence of the patients, under any circumstance. Behind the scenes... it can be discussed, joked about, and ridiculed.

  2. Grayson Perry is an English award-winning ceramicist (potter) who makes no secret about being a cross-dresser and is photographed more en femme than in male drab.

  3. Once I went to the doctor with shaved legs. I was wearing long pants. He pulled up my pants leg and pressed on my shin. Apparently, if the skin does not return to the same shape or color, it is indicative of a problem. He noticed that I was hairless. He asked, "Why are your legs hairless?" or something like that. I performed well, being that I was put on the spot. I said, "Personal preference." I assume that there is some medical condition that can result in hairlessness...

    1. Yep. It's called "alopecia." Can result from all kinds of conditions -- including age. Can affect all exterior body parts that normally sprout hair. The older I get, the less often I have to shave my now-nearly-hairless legs.

My day, who was a barber, thought that Alopecia would be a lovely girl's name. He didn't call me or my sister by it, though.

    2. Knew a guy who did not have a hair on his entire body. Not even lashes. No other issues.

I think sometimes NO hair can indicate poor circulation as well. They could be checking for that

  4. Stana what a great picture of you in the white dress with your legs crossed. You are such a beauty.

    1. I've noticed that I have less and less hair on my legs as I grow older. The hair loss started with my lower legs and I assumed it was caused from athletic when I was young. I now only have a tiny amount of hair on my knees. I have noticed my son also has the same condition. He is hairless up to his mid-calf. I used to play a lot of golf and noticed the older men with smooth legs. I wondered if they were members of the Nair or razor club. I now wear shorts a lot and don't worry about showing my pasty, white gams.

  5. no one cares if your hairless That's if they notice I use to care to and would worry about it Now I just shave put my shorts on and don't worry about it. No one has ever questioned it, If they did I think I would just say "I'm a cross dress" and wait for the response.

  6. I shave my legs every day and my arms about twice a week. They are both smooth. That body hair is a source of dysphoria for me. Once I came out to myself and accepted myself, I didn't care if anyone saw my shaved arms and legs while in drab. (I might have before my awakening tho.).

Honestly, I don't think people think much about it. And people in the athletic field shave all the time for various reasons.

If one is on the fence on going hairless, just do it. No one cares. They have their own lives to live and their own problems to deal with.

  8. I noticed the same thing. Older I got less hair. If it would only quit growing on my face. I’d be happy.

    1. From an old Burma Shave advertising sign sequence:

      In this vale
      Of toil and sin
      Our head grows bald
      But not our chin.
      Burma Shave

And likewise our legs grow sparse but not our ears or chest. I have had my legs shaved smooth for nearly fifty years. Shaving my legs gets easier every passing year. I was nervous the first time I shaved but no one has ever noticed.

  9. I shave my arms, chest and nether regions daily, legs once in a while. Never once have I had a medical professional mention anything about it. Who cares? Just do it and get on with life.

  10. First it is very common for older men to have hairless shins. It comes from long pants grabbing and pulling the hair.
I hate shaving!!!! I hate the stubble that results from shaving.
I wax, and I am surprise that so many don't at least try it. I love the look and feel on my freshly waxed skin.
I need to tape certain muscles regions on my legs and hair and tape don't play well together. I was asked to shave my legs before the doctors could show me how to tape. But I hate the stubble, the itch. I decided to get my legs waxed. That was over 7 years ago. The first several times I got waxed hurt a bit, but now it's hardly noticeable. The number of hairs have greatly reduced, they are thinner and now also blonde. I get waxed about every 7 weeks in the winter.
Since then I started to get my brows waxed and this year I started to get a Brazilian. I just love that smooth feeling (with no stubble).
    I buy multi-waxing plans.

  11. Speaking of body hair...
The only flaw in the photo of the Femulator in your Aug 01 post was the forearm hair.....
I have a lady lawyer who refuses to shave her legs as a male judge insisted that all female lawyers not wear pants.
So in keeping with this MCP* judges' edict, she (and others) wears hose over her hairy legs so the gnarly hairs randomly poke out of the hose.....
    ICK(!) to the 100th power....

  12. My grandson competes in Crossfit, and he goes completely hairless -- looks better (I suppose) when he oils up his body!

  13. If it’s personal and not related to the visit, it is unprofessional and also simply rude to bring it up. If you have pitting edema then it can be relevant to ask about lack of hair on the leg.

  14. Take estrogen as I have done over 11 years under the care of endocrinologists and the leg hair will be finer and slower in growth. My face has softened in appearance and my bra cup size is DD.

  15. We all know Claire, Grayson Perry’s alter ego, so the big question is who is Claire? There are so many Claire’s from «little girl » to sophisticated lady. Perhaps Stana can do a photo feature on Claire.

So a second question is who are we? My main objective is to be an anonymous woman in any public environment’ from supermarket to theatre and not to turn any heads. More often than not Madame is the normal address; so do I pass or is the world now much more generous in acceptance?

But I love exploring other personae, Indian lady, 1920’s flapper and one from other epochs’ so séance at a theatrical costumier is to be booked. My woman friends don’t really understand but smile kindly and accept my fantasies

  16. I’ve been shaving arms, underarms and legs for years and have never had an issue – except when the arm stubble is visible! (Time to shave.. 😉) My physicians know that I am TG so no issue there. Actually our new personal doctor is a woman, and for the first time I had a physical as Claire. She was so understanding – probably the most comfortable I have been with a doctor.

  17. For my last doctor's appointment, I had to completely strip down. The doctor noticed my lack of hair, colourful panties on the top of the stack of clothes, and my twenty polished nails and we had a discussion about where I am and possible ways forward that I never would have initiated.

  18. I am fortunate enough to have very little body and facial hair. I have been shaving it all off for 40 years. The only time a doctor said something about it was a dermatologist. Asked me if I was a nudist. Apparently a lot of nudists shave it all off. I only have to shave about every two weeks or so. Facial hair about every 3 days. I do have long thick blond hair..gray now....so just maybe I have had a abundance of estrogen my whole life😃..testosterone is overrated 😂😂

  19. Interesting how so many docs notice no hair where there usually is some on men, and say nothing. I have dry skin, made worse by taking a diuretic because of heart problems. Shaving dry skin doesn't work, so I depend on sending business Stana's way when I buy depilatory cream. It's harsh on dry skin, too, so I have to treat my arms with high-powered Eucerin for 3-4 days before my hair removal routine.

My heart problems also cause edema, so I have to wear compression hose. The heavy-duty hose from Jobst and other companies works well, is uncomfortable, is very hot in the summer and VERY expensive. About 10-12 years ago I found a compression version of women's nylons that cost 1/3 to sometimes 1/4 the cost of the high-test version. All my docs have seen my nylons, but nobody has said anything. Likewise, they've all seen my women's panties. I have a new dermatologist and decided she should get more of a look at Mikki, at least my clothes. I don't pass well at all, so I save my full makeup attempts for evenings, but always wear women's clothes, bra and all when I go to see her. Still not a peep. I can't believe my docs are all so non-curious!
