I live on an acre of land. About half of it is lawn that requires mowing.
I have a walk behind lawn mower. In my youth, I mowed the lawn in less than two hours. On Wednesday, it took me nearly two hours to mow half the lawn. I like to think that the slow down is due more to my osteoarthritis than my old age, but it’s probably a combination of both.
They say, “Old age isn’t for sissies.” (But what if you are a sissy?)
But I digress.
After two hours behind my Husqvarna on Wednesday, I quit, parked the mower in my shed and walked back to my house. As I turned a corner of my house, I came face-to-face with a black bear who was heading towards me and my bird feeder.
We were both startled and ran in opposite directions!
It was not the first bear I have seen on my property. Over the years, I have probably had a dozen sightings, but they were always from inside the house looking out.
My Wednesday bear encounter was up close, face-to-face. About ten feet separated us. Wow! I did not wet my panties, but almost!
We now return you to our regular scheduled programming.
The upside: the bear was probably not the least bit concerned about what you were wearing. :-)
ReplyDeleteA terrific report that bears a follow-up report.

This wasn't you, was it? (very short, SFW)

No - but my experience was similar.
DeleteAngela is lovely. The bear was not so lovely but you were probably both equally scared.
ReplyDeleteYou couldn't tell if the bear wet him/her self!
Lol. All's well that ends well! I have had many encounters with bears in my hiking years. They are wild animals and not plushies...
ReplyDeleteThere are "Sissies" and then there are "sissies", and we Femulators are in a perfect position to tell the difference.
ReplyDeleteI'm reminded of two bear stories. I saw one on TV -- The David Letterman Show. He had recently joined the stream of millionaires buying homes in Montana. A fairly sized brown bear found it's way into his house and spent a fair amount of time checking things out. Fortunately he had a camera ready and then shared it with us.
When I was a lot younger I was at a family reunion in Bluefield, WV. One morning a bunch of us kids were out on the large porch and a big ol' bear .wandered onto the porch about 15 or so yards from us. We made a lot of noise and our great-grandmother came out, picked up a broom and went right up to the bear and shooed it away. She wasn't much more than 5' tall and couldn't have weighed much more than 100#. From that time on I held her in almost mystical awe!
Here in Baltimore we don't see any bears, even though I live across from a pretty nice and big park. The best we seem to be able to do is foxes and recently someone posted some video of baby coyotes. Those bears can stay out in Western Maryland and Stana's back yard, thank you.
Beautiful Creatures,
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, almost the same thing happened to me a few years ago when I was walking out to the car in the morning. Our noses weren’t touching unlike yours but close enough for me to slowly backup, go inside and decide that being a bit late at work that day would be perfectly forgivable.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for publishing my photo today!
Angela, I'm a junkie for polka dots. I LOVE your skirt!! And, being on your lovely self, you make it look better!
DeleteThank you Mikki! I will admit to owning four polka dot skirts and one dress and I’m always on the lookout for more.
Deletesuch a stunning photo, Angela.you look fantastic
DeleteAngela, I have a boatload of polka dot dresses and some polka dot skirts. My Mom loved wearing polka dots -- maybe it's genetic!! But my polka dots are all the "regular" pattern, with one exception. But I have yet to find one with the unique and stylish pattern we see on you! Here's my current favorite
