MonaLisa Twins

Viewing music videos on the Internet (YouTube) Saturday night, one thing led to another. In this case, after watching The Beatles lip sync Paperback Writer, YouTube suggested viewing a video by MonaLisa Twins performing Please Mr. Postman/Wipe Out.

I had never heard of the MonaLisa Twins, but I viewed the video and was spellbound by the twin Austrian sisters’ performance videotaped live in Liverpool’s The Cavern Club no less. I was hooked, so much so that I viewed about a dozen more of their videos.

They do a lot of Beatles’ tunes as well as other rock songs from the 1960s and 1970s. Obligatory femulation connection: the Twins also cover The Kinks Lola.

Check them out – you won‘t be disappointed.

  2. Stana -

I have been watching their videos for a couple of years now. Did you know that they started to sing in public at age 12? Wonderful sisters and singers. Love their version of Maxwell's Silver Hammer.

  4. I watched the video they are fantastic musically, cute, feminine, and fun

They brought a new perspective to the song

I also like the different camera angles made me feel like I was there.

BTW Paula in her UK travels did make it to the Cavern Club

The stairs were a bitch in heels, it is several stories beneath the street and has been reconstructed as the old warehouse is long gone.

At the time the Beatles played there is was blighted real estate that was LOW rent and a place where under ground music was played

And we know the rest of the story

I had a great time, befriended by a group of gay men who make sure I was safe and had a good time.

  5. Wow - Flip Wilson. The TV Star who told a young boy that wearing girl's clothes could be fun AND acceptable. Well, he was HALF right, anyway.

  7. The Mona Lisa Twins are a real treat. There's something very special about the way members of the same family can harmonize -- especially twins -- that can't be matched. I'm old enough to have seen The Everly Brothers and knew about The Louvin Brothers, whose harmonies the Everly brothers modeled themselves after. Whenever the Quebe Sisters are in DC or Baltimore I go to see them. They're three sisters from Texas who harmonize on the fiddle as well as wonderfully with their voices. They don't do Beatles covers, but they do kick-ass Bob Wills Texas Swing. The best sister harmonizing I've ever heard was from the extraordinary voices of (the late) Kate McGarrigle and her sister Anna. Their harmonies give me chills whenever I listen to them. Emmylou Harris and especially Linda Ronstadt were drawn to and covered their music. They recorded both in English and Quebecois French. I've heard lots of great harmonies, but the McGarrigles are hands-down the best. And their children are carrying the tradition on.

I'm so old....... I actually saw The Marvalettes at The Howard Theater (on the so-called chitlin' circuit) in DC many, many moons ago. I love the way the MonaLisas cover their "Please Mr. Postman". Some songs deserve/need to be sung forever.

  8. Speaking of musical twins..... Has anyone else come across The Edwards Twins? They do a show full of celebrity singers impersonations, both male and female. I'd love to see a live show someday. https://theedwardstwins.com/

The Twins are great for sure , But look at Dea Matrona from Ireland. A new generation that rocks, and rocks the 60's looks. They are immensely talented musicians and do wonderful covers and original songs too.
