Not just that, but "Tootsie" was also notable for the strong feminist message that it delivered and for advocating for female empowerment as a counterpoint to traditional male privilege.
As for groundbreaking movies of this genre, I would also nominate "Just Like a Woman" as a personal favorite. It is decidedly more relatable to our specific crossdressing community, is very understanding and sympathetic towards us, and tries to explain this complex and curious predilection of ours to the average civilian in a manner that few others have succeeded in. The next closest would be "Transparent", but that has more of a transsexual-inspired theme.
I loved Tootsie and Just Like A Woman Two European films to look for are Lola Ver la Mer, but probably not translated and Girl, the latter about a boy studying as a ballerina, both Belgian and somewhat more edgy. A film called Miss came out in France last year, but so far I haven't found it in a form I can watch.
By the way Stana, that picture in a yellow dress is stunning. Love the length.
The movie Tootsie was a game changer, it showed how femulation could be done in a classic real life form not in overstated drag

I think JUST LIKE A WOMAN is the perfect (or as perfect as a film can be) depiction of what it's really like.
