james spader was actually femulating his boss and mentor (as played by candice bergen) at the works fancy dress xmas party. he also femulated as a "lennon sister" on more than one occasion (once with co-star bill shatner, who it has to be said looked absolutely awful!). spader was in his forties at the time, and starting to lose the pretty boy looks of his youth. sadly as far as i know he never femulated in his prime, as i am pretty sure he would have looked really good!
I had been looking for a frame of James Spader and William Shatner femulating 'enfemme', on the outer balcony after their costume party.... No luck. Velma
I remember reading back in the nineties that he auditioned for ‘To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar’. Though he did not get the part the casting director thought he was so beautiful that he could have been the face of a cosmetics brand.
that's a shame, as i think he would have been a far better choice than patrick swayze. i suppose a factor in the selection process was the latter's star being high at that point thanks to "dirty dancing" and "ghost", whilst in contrast spader was very much a cult/alternative actor with many of his films going straight to video release
