You guys beat me to 'it'. On first image, I could not help of thinking of "Get Smart". Kinda shows our collective ages.... Everyone crushed on Barbara Feldon, his sidekick "Agent 99". Always wondered of 'Oh 99' rock song was homage to Barbara Feldon/Agent 99. Cant find any link. Velma
That photo, although dated 1952 on a pinterest site is probably nearer 1959/60 in date. Kiki was at the Carrousel club when April Ashley turned up about 1958, and still there in 1960 according to April's book. Married with a son, Kiki always left the drag in the dressing room and went home with suit and briefcase as though finishing an evening at the office.
it's amazing that kiki was (as opposed to most of his peers, that were either gay or transexual) a seemingly straight guy with a family to keep, who viewed female mimicry simply as a means to earn a crust whilst otherwise leading an ordinary "hetero" lifestyle! given that, i wonder what drew him in to that world in the first place?
Speaking of which. Stana are you pierced? (ears, that is.) Otherwise, Waaaay TMI! ;-). One of our lady friends 'who knows' is egging me on to get my 'lobes' pierced, but no matter where you go, the VIRUS seems to follow.... Given the fact that 'clip-ons' are scarce these days... Not skeered, just cautious. Velma
Regarding pierced ears - why wait ? I'm about as closteted as one can be , but I've had my ears pierced since the 1990's . ( Each , doubly pierced, actually ! ) I've never had an untoward comment - I don't wear earrings to work, and very few people have ever noticed the tiny holes .
Earrings on men , presenting as men, are quite common and accepted nowadays . There's no reason to be fearful .
Liberate your lobes - you have nothing to lose but your cllip-ons ! ;-)
The Someday Funny reminds me of the 1960s NBC TV series "Get Smart"

The "Get Smart" reference occurred to me, too, but I could not come up with a caption that tied that reference and femulating together.
