The Despicable/Trump Administration is working on a formal religious exemption to rules that ban federal contractors from discriminating against LGBTQ people, according to a several unnamed Labor Department sources who spoke with Buzzfeed News.
According to the sources, the Despicable/Trump Administration is working on a policy that would allow federal contractors to discriminate against workers if the contractor claims that their religion requires them to discriminate against LGBTQ people.
The sources did not know if the exception would be limited to federal contractors that are religious – like a Catholic charity – or if it applies to for-profit businesses. Conservatives favor religious exemptions for for-profit businesses like Hobby Lobby and Masterpiece Cakeshop, claiming that a religious business owner’s beliefs are violated if their business violates them.

ReplyDeleteThis person is sick and tired of courts legitimizing HATE and DISCRIMINATION in the name of so called religious freedom.
ReplyDeleteWhatever one wishes to practice (worship) in their sovereign, private house of worship, (yes there are legal restrictions there too!)is one thing, but to legitimize mis-interpreted 'scripture' as the right to offer hate and discrimination and denial of service in the marketplace is simply corrupt law intended to enrich the powered elite, and ultimately diminish standing of civil rights laws, further fomenting hate and division.
Part of this problem is that lawyers have gotten away with convincing courts that CORPORATE ENTITIES are PEOPLE. This is NOT the truth of the ruling; The original ruling was that CORPORATIONS WERE --NOT-- PEOPLE. APPARENTLY A (deliberate?) transcription error of the ruling left out the 'NOT', and corporations have used this error to convince courts to rule as if the 'Corporate State' was indeed a 'person'. Courts are loath to actually reverse the error--in the name of so called 'settled law'. I am sure the TRUMP courts WONT have problems reversing/diminishing OTHER 'settled law' rulings...
Several states have voted constitutional amendments to correct this. Most persons are totally unaware of the issue. Where does YOUR state stand? Velma
"if the contractor claims that their religion requires them to discriminate against LGBTQ people."
ReplyDeleteThat's OK, as long as I get an exemption for my religion which requires me to torch the homes and businesses of bigots.
Preach!
DeleteBut don't really torch their homes. That is sinking to their level. You are better than that. Plus you might accidentally get burned, your ownself.
You lost me at "BuzzFeed".
ReplyDeleteGood riddance.

DeleteIf the policy is instituted, I wonder how soon will it allow government supervisors(federal/state/city) to use their religion to oust government employees.
