Our local wig store, was 'Ninas Bloomers, Boots and Wigs', (circa 1960's, now long gone). Store was located at a sharp curve in the outbound lanes of a 4 lane highway. Ninas store had large glass front featuring female mannequins wearing-- what else?-- bloomers, boots and wigs--. Occasional rearenders happened due to driver distraction at rush hour when the 'models' were standing nude in the display window due to a outfit change. Velma
My mother wore wigs. I simply "borrowed" hers, as well as her whole wardrobe, when I was a kid. The first one I bought was from K-Mart, and it was awful. Most all of the many wigs I've purchased since have been from Paula Young.

For me, it was Sears. Of course, that was in the mid 70's - when Sears had a lot of stuff and it was all pretty good quality. It was very nice (blond, nearly shoulder length, nicely styled) and when I wore it for my first Drag Halloween, 2 girls asked if they could borrow it. Today, it is easy for me, too, to tell it from my own hair since my hair is practically gone! (giggle)
A local wig shop, since gone, named Pixie.
ReplyDeleteI recall sneaking peeks at the Fredricks ads located in various mags. I was always fascinated (and now own one) by bullet bras. Velma

ReplyDeleteLucky, girl! My mother never owned a wig, but she owned lots of hats, so I borrowed her hats to cover my head.
DeleteBTW, I can tell it from my own hair, cuz I have very little of my own anymore. :-)

DeleteI know what you mean. My hair is gray, almost white.
