What will life be like for us girls in 25 years? Here are my predictions for where we will be in the year 2043.
It will be completely acceptable for males to dress however they please. Just as it is acceptable for females to wear male clothing today, it will be acceptable for males to wear female clothing in 2043.
There will be different degrees of how males adopt womenswear. At one end of the spectrum are guys who may on occasion wear a macho skirt, a manly pair of high heels and a little foundation, while at the other end of the spectrum will be the "femmen" (you know who you are), who will dress in womenswear all of the time. And nobody will hassle anyone for what they wear except maybe scolding those fellows wearing white frocks after Labor Day.
There will no longer be women's and men's restrooms; there will just be restrooms.
Clothing stores will no longer segregate their wares between women and men or girls and boys. Instead, the stores will have adult, young adult, and children's clothing departments.
Sex reassignment surgery (SRS) will be very common in 25 years because folks will be able to get SRS on demand just like cosmetic surgery can be had on demand today. Folks with and without gender dysphoria will be able to change genders and the results will be more satisfactory because of advances in the surgical procedures.
All health insurance plans will cover gender-related procedures, either as basic coverage or as an option like some plans offer vision and dental coverage as an add-on expense today. For example, if you were contemplating SRS, you could opt for gender coverage and it would not be an expensive add-on because the procedure will be so common in 25 years.
By 2043, you will be able to live in whatever gender role you prefer. When someone asks a child, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" the anticipated answer will be "girl" or "boy" and not a career choice. Females can be as macho as they want to be and males can be as feminine as they want to be.
What a wonderful world it will be!

I agree with everything in your post........except that being able to live in any gender role you want will happen way before 2043. I believe it will definitely be by 2033 or even as soon as 2028. (May I live so long). It is actually happening now to some degree, in some parts of the country.
ReplyDeleteStana, great repost. Love the pictures you chose to represent the point. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI simply want to be able to doll myself up in feminine apparel along with makeup and heels while continuing to be myself, John. I would continue to speak with my masculine bass voice instead of trying to sound like a woman.
ReplyDeleteYesterday I was the only man seated in the choir since the other men were out of town. With my long hair and bust (DD cup size) I blended in with the women in appearance but certainly not in my singing.
In 25 years, hormone replacement therapy may well also improve and by then you may be able to adjust gender (among other things) on a DNA level.
ReplyDeleteCross dressing, as we know it, will not exist
ReplyDeleteSkirts will be the norm for both sexes

ReplyDeleteWhat if ..
Sex reassignment surgery (SRS) will be seen as iresponsible interference to human nature. Bright profesor from Harvard University will overthrow third gender theory. There will be two genders equal to sex. People will be consider as persons. It will be normal to wear whatever they feel/want. It will be normal for boys to be equal emotional as girls. Weddings will be beetwen two persons wearing 2 dresses / tuxedos/uniforms whatever they feel.
Just random conversation from San Francisco tranin from 2035:
"You have nice heels Georg, thank you Monica, let's go to high heels dancing lessons, we are already late :*."
Boy or Girl asked, who do you want to be when you grow up - MYSELF!
regards Anette
Anette, well written comment. The what if in SRS / the professor... I’m not gonna stray into that. I agree it will be good when it’s normal for boys to be equally emotional as girls. Of course, in the future, it’s person, as boy girl definitions wouldn’t be as definitive. What you say on wedding persons and attire, I agree. But, will any marriage be a thing.... ok a totally separate debate.... some folks will still do it I suppose.
DeleteRegarding random conversation.... great thoughts and will be great when it happens.
Totally agree that when the child is asked what they want to be when they grow up, answering myself and not an old idea of a gender role nor career. With technology advances, there’s a huge number of careers today that won’t exist even when one would look at the careers 20 years from now and on that future day the same can be said.
