I love this story. It illustrates why Grayson Perry is one of my idols.
The story is all over the Internet; here are a few from the UK:
Daily Mail: Grayson Perry wears 'mother of bride' outfit to receive CBE from Prince Charles
The Telegraph: Grayson Perry collects CBE in 'Italian mother of the bride' outfit
Belfast Telegraph: Video: Grayson Perry collects CBE in 'mother of the bride' outfit
That settles it! I'm moving back to England!
ReplyDeleteCan I come with you?
ReplyDeleteYou and Julie would be most welcome to swell the numbers of we out and about already here!
DeleteIsn't just great that Grayson has received his CBE dressed albeit "down" as he puts it. He is the first Trannie ever who dressed to receive his honour. Hooray!
Very cool!

ReplyDeleteWhat is the CBE?
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is an order of chivalry established on 4 June 1917 by King George V. The Order is composed of five classes in civil and military divisions. CBE is the third class and is the initialism for Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.
DeleteThe 4th (OBE) and 5th (MBE) class entitle the person to be called "Sir" or "Dame." Paul McCartney has an MBE, so that's why you often hear him called "Sir Paul."
I wonder which title Grayson would be using if he received an OBE or MBE instead of a CBE?
It would be undoubtably, Sir.
