I remember that movie. I think it had at least one sequel.
I taped it off cable and for a few years it was one of my guilty pleasures. Not really good, but something about it appealed to me.
It didn't really have a TG theme (apart from Dick Shawn's character), but as I recall the plot, there were several elements that transgender's can relate to.
The main character is a high school student who has no family (she's pretending to be supporting an infirm mother). While attending a good high school, she supports herself by leading a secret life as a streetwalker. Far too many transexuals world wide are forced into a similar condition.
She keeps up the double life until she is "outed" when some students from her school spot her on the street while out cruising for action. This is a fear of many of us.
It's rated 5.1 on IMDB, which is probably about right.
